Connecting Your Store to Social Media
Connecting your online store to social media platforms lets customers discover and buy your products without leaving their favourite apps. It also creates a consistent presence that builds brand recognition over time. This guide covers the major platforms and what each connection actually does.
1. Why Connect Social Media to Your Store
- Shoppable posts — tag products in Instagram and Facebook posts so customers tap to buy without visiting your site.
- Product catalogue sync — your inventory stays current across all platforms automatically.
- Retargeting — social platforms show your ads to people who visited your site but didn't purchase.
- Social proof — customer reviews and user-generated content on social media influence buying decisions.
2. Facebook and Instagram Shop
Facebook Commerce Manager handles both Facebook Shop and Instagram Shopping from one place.
- Go to business.facebook.com and create or select your Business Manager account.
- Navigate to Commerce Manager → Get started and choose Create a shop.
- Select Checkout on another website (directs customers to your store to complete purchase).
- Connect your Facebook Page and Instagram account.
- Add a product catalogue — either manually or by syncing from your e-commerce platform (WooCommerce, Shopify, and most platforms have a direct Facebook integration plugin).
- Submit for review. Meta reviews shops within 24–48 hours.
Once approved, enable Product Tagging in Instagram settings so you can tag products in posts and Stories. Add the Facebook Pixel to your site (found in Events Manager) to track conversions from Facebook and Instagram ads.
3. Pinterest Product Pins
Pinterest drives significant e-commerce traffic, especially for home décor, fashion, food, and gifts — categories that photograph well.
- Create a Pinterest Business account at business.pinterest.com.
- Go to Catalogues → Add products and upload a product data feed (CSV or XML) from your store, or use the Shopify/WooCommerce Pinterest app.
- Claim your website under Settings → Claimed Accounts by adding the Pinterest meta tag to your site's <head>.
- Products automatically become Product Pins showing price, availability, and a direct link to purchase.
4. LinkedIn (B2B Services)
If Isuso Works manages a services business (not physical products), LinkedIn is more relevant than a product catalogue. Use it to:
- Link your website in your Company Page → About section.
- Enable the LinkedIn Insight Tag on your site (a small JS snippet from Campaign Manager) to track visits from LinkedIn and build retargeting audiences.
- Share blog posts and case studies directly from your CMS to LinkedIn using the Share button or a scheduling tool like Buffer.
5. TikTok Shop
TikTok Shop is available in Canada for eligible sellers. It lets you embed products in TikTok videos and Lives.
- Apply at seller-ca.tiktok.com with your business registration and bank details.
- Once approved, connect your product catalogue.
- Install the TikTok Pixel on your website for conversion tracking.
- Use the WooCommerce or Shopify TikTok plugin to keep inventory in sync automatically.
6. Best Practices for All Platforms
- Keep branding consistent — profile picture, bio, and colour palette should match your website.
- Keep product information in sync — use a single source of truth (your store's catalogue) and let integrations pull from it rather than manually updating each platform.
- Respond to messages quickly — social platforms grade your response rate and can restrict your shop features if it drops below 90% within 24 hours.
- Review platform policies — Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok all have prohibited product lists. Make sure your products comply before submitting for review.
7. Troubleshooting
| Issue | Fix |
|---|---|
| Shop rejected by Meta | Check your product descriptions for prohibited terms (see Meta Commerce Policies). Ensure your return/refund policy is clearly visible on your website. |
| Products not syncing | Check the catalogue data feed URL is publicly accessible (not behind a login). Re-schedule a manual sync in Commerce Manager or your plugin settings. |
| Pixel not tracking | Use Meta's Pixel Helper Chrome extension to confirm the pixel is firing. Verify the pixel ID in your store's Facebook integration settings matches your Ads Manager pixel ID. |
